Instagram has quickly become one of the fastest growing and most engaging social networks, leaving everyone in a frenzy about finding and sharing only the best quality photos, especially in the wide world of travel!

But with literally millions of accounts out there, how do you find and grow into the specific travel communities you’re looking for?

The answer: Hashtags and Features.

Instagram hashtags were originally created for Search, but the new updates with curated “Trending Tags” and “Explore Posts” have kind of taken the cake on exploration and “Finds,” so now the best way to tap into new travel communities and audiences, is by being featured on other accounts.

Curation Accounts are those that scour the Insta-verse for the best images, and feature them all in one place, usually around a centralized, niche theme or geographic area. Many brands have also launched hashtags for followers to use on their images related to the brand for one-off or weekly Community features, in addition to producing unique content on the regular. (Like #cetravelers for me!)

Here are 40 of the best Instagram travel hashtags for finding epic photos, and being featured on some amazing accounts:

General, Global Travel

#travelstoke (Matador Network)

#letsgoeverywhere (Skyscanner)

#tlpicks (Travel + Leisure)

#mytinyatlas (Tiny Atlas Quarterly)

#traveldudes (For travelers, by travelers)

Curation Accounts

The Great Outdoors

Women’s Travel + Occasion-Specific

#loveFL – Visit Florida

#findyourpark – U.S. National Park Service

#alwaysSF – San Francisco Travel

General Travel for Search

The best way to get featured on another Instagram account is by contacting the account owner directly and sharing images that fit the hashtag owner’s personal aesthetic and theme, often creating them with this feature in mind.

I kind of shot myself in the foot with this one, creating a unique theme of all circular images to give a “porthole” look and match the front page of my blog theme before Instagram allowed a variety of frame sizes and became such a hub of curated images (remember when Instagram used to be like, live-time photos? Insta- gram. Back in the dark ages, I tell you.), so please use these tips and go get big features since it’s a bit more challenging for me! :)

never stop exploring ????
